Four Weekends in July Which You Simply Cannot Miss!
Busy months in Cambridge for art lovers – visit Cambridge Art Fair 25th-27th June with free complementary tickets to our members, and then enjoy meeting Cambridge artists in their studios through all July.
The craftspeople and artists of the Cambridge region open their workshops and homes to the public each year, in order to show people just how they create their work and the concepts behind each piece they have made. Cambridge Open Studios has become such a unique experience precisely due to this interaction.
When is it?
In 2010, the event will be held on the following July weekends: 3rd-4th; 10th-11th; 17th-18th and 24th-25th
What will I see?
203 artists will showcase their art in 105 venues. Amongst these will be painters who use many varied media including oil, watercolour, acrylic, collage and pastel and who specialise in landscapes, seascapes, still life, portraiture, animals, botany and abstract.
Other artists include illustrators, potters, sculptors, those who work in textiles and mixed media, jewellers, photographers and digital artists, glassmakers, furniture craftspeople, printmakers and lettering artists, metal workers, enamellers, wood workers and even a clock maker.
Can I buy art?
All participating artists will have for sale original items as well as prints and cards. You may find some are willing to take commissions.
How much is it?
Entry is absolutely free of charge and to enable visitors to easily identify participating venues, special yellow flags will be displayed. Each studio will be open to the public from 11 am to 6 pm on both days.
How can I find out more?
For those wanting to get the best out of the experience, there is a free guide available as of 4th June from many business houses in the region such as shops, galleries, libraries, colleges, surgeries and tourist offices.
Why should I support Cambridge Open Studios?
This studio event receives absolutely no funding and is organized and funded by the members only. Its main aim is to promote the creation of original art and craft items and present the general public with the opportunity to become more involved in the art making process.
