Scotland’s National Art Fair, the Glasgow Art Fair 2010, is held from 25th – 28th March. This is the 15th year of the Fair and throughout this time, the Fair has built and sustained a well deserved reputation as an event where the best quality contemporary art, using varied media, is showcased. Both well established artists and new talent are equally represented.

The prominent white marquees, located in George Square which is itself a dominant feature of the Glaswegian landscape, are full to the brim with outstanding examples of contemporary art from 46 galleries especially selected for the exhibition. These galleries hail from throughout Scotland, the rest of the UK, Europe and beyond and represent around 1,000 artists. It is anticipated that approximately 16,500 people will visit the Fair in 2010.

Glasgow has become renowned for its patronage of visual arts and the Art Fair has, over the past decade and a half, become established as a springboard from which emerging talent is able to gain exposure to the buying public.

One special feature of the 2010 Glasgow Art Fair is a special exhibition of work by the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI). This Institute was founded in 1860 and is active in the promotion of contemporary art works by Scottish artists.

The Fair is the ideal place in Scotland to purchase, sell or simply view art, whether you are an avid collector, a casual purveyor, or just interested in art. Art works can be purchased for as little as £50, whilst others attract prices in excess of £70,000.

Take a look at our exclusive member offers and get 2for1 ticket to the Affordable Art Fair in London in March 2010 and free tickets for Russian, Eastern and Oriental Fine Art Fair in London and Cambridge Art Fair both in June 2010.

Buy Rugs and Carpets at a Prestigious London Art Event

Become our member to enjoy FREE tickets to the Russian, Eastern and Oriental Fine Art Fair in London, June 2010 and many other art events across the UK all year around. If you are looking to buy Persian, Oriental or Antique rugs and carpets, then you certainly should not miss a great opportunity to buy some rare and high quality pieces during the fair.

Visitors to the Russian, Eastern and Oriental Fine Art Fair should prepare to be astonished by the amazing number and variety of fine art works and antiques on display by dealers and galleries from across the world. Those examples with a higher profile such as Byzantine iconography and paintings, as well as Faberge jewellery will be there, but you're going to get a lot more: indeed, there will be something for anyone who is in love with the fine art that has been manufactured by Russian and Oriental artists and craftsmen during the last millennium.

The art fair visitors will be able to see and buy such gorgeous pieces of art as highly decorated and beautifully crafted Persian, Oriental and Antique rugs and carpets. Some prominent examples of exquisite pieces to anticipate are Afghan Caucasian designed rugs, Fachralo Kazak rugs with classic design elements such as the classic box medallion with wine glass and a serrated leaf border and Turkoman carpets originating from Russian Turkmenistan.

Russian art collectors nowadays naturally gravitate to London to purchase the best examples of this genre as this city has become one of the most significant locations for Russian art auctions. Expatriate Russians living in London and other places and those still in the motherland travel to these auctions.

The 2009 Fair was designated by London's Russian community as a premier event on their social calendar. A highlight of this Fair was the Charity Gala Evening on behalf of The Children's Burns Trust, which was patronised by highly ranked Russians such as Their Highnesses Prince and Princess Dimitri Lobanov Rostovsky, celebrities and other VIPs. Approximately £15,000 was raised just for this charity through this evening, in conjunction with the Ritz Club VIP dinner.

Expectations were exceeded in quite a few examples of artwork sales: some even being recorded within the high six figure amounts. The Fair is particularly well regarded by the art community to the extent that galleries from as distant as, for example, the Far East and the United States are represented together with galleries from Russia, Europe and the Middle East.

Due to ever higher demand, the 2010 Fair will have on display Asian Art for the first time. The majority of this art primarily hails from the geographical area formerly known as Persia, for a long period renowned as the home of fine rugs and furnishings. Specialist Oriental and Indian art and antiquities dealers will also have on exhibit examples of a number of their finest collections: many who have attended the London Russian, Oriental and Eastern Art sales will see this as an answer to their prayers.

The organisers of the Russian Art Fair, in association with the Ritz Club Casino, The St Petersburg Ball, The Russian Summer Ball and representatives from the media and other Fair organisers, are intent on attracting top calibre clientele. To make certain that this happens, the venue selected for this 2010 Art Fair will be the opulent Art Deco ballroom in the Park Lane Hotel, located in London's Mayfair.

The Fair has been timed in order to take advantage of the greater numbers of art purchasers who are in London to capitalise from the Russian sales at Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonham's and MacDougall's, which are all occurring in the same week.

The 2010 Russian Oriental and Eastern Fine Art Fair will be open at the following days and events:

Private View: Wednesday 9th June 6pm to 9:30pm
Charity Gala Evening: Friday 11th June from 6pm
Public Days: Thursday 11am-6, Friday 11am-5 Saturday 11am-6pm

Those wishing to attend the specially organised Charity Gala Evening will be pleased to know that the recipient is once more the Children's Burns Trust.

This exhibition open to the public is featuring traditional African art work. The work on display includes such articles as masks, figurines and small objects and has been crafted by unknown artists located throughout the continent and who represent a number of different cultural groups.

The display is contrived so as to place together objects that symbolise some of the different aspects of tribal life and culture, such as the relevance of daily routine and ritual: these objects, however, do not have any commercial value. The aspects represented are: ancestors, fertility, marriage, warriors and nature. Included in the exhibition is a presentation by the curator, who will discuss the art of Africa and how it is intertwined with tribal life. There will also be a discussion regarding the art and some story telling aimed at both children and adults. Visitors can enter the exhibition free of charge.

People often relate African art with the Black History Month, and they are more familiar with music and dance, literature and performing art, but not so much with visual and plastic art. There is also an ages old stigma about this art, a prejudice which is inherited from the past, that masks and fetishes present evil spirits and will do harm to those who posses them.

We shall organise a talk and a discussion about the meaning of the masks and figurines which present always something in relation with everyday life. The inspiration is life itself and surrounding environment, which includes all natural habitats, animals and plants. These features are “magical” because they are used to intervene with “higher powers”, communicate with the world of spirits, help people to pray and ask for help, support healing, war and peace and they mean life and death.

Every bead, feather or other item used to create a mask or a figure is carefully chosen and it symbolises particular aspect in the life of tribe. The fact is that three quarters of the population of Black Africa are still fetishist and continue to practice this religion. Most of the ritual sculptures used are masks, which appear during the religious dances and public celebrations.

There are also figurines and larger statues (totems) which, according to the region, represent ancestral portraits, or fetishes to protect the village and its inhabitants, to conjure against evil spirits, against drought and epidemics, to bring fertility to women or evil and harm to enemies, such as the nail fetishes from the Bas Congo areas and similar. Nature is embedded in many human forms as totemic presentation of the particular characteristic which the tribal artist believes that it belongs to that particular mask or figurine.

This Collection belongs to the New World International charity organisation; curators are Vesna Petkovic and Dante Montagnani. Exhibition organiser: Pro Art & Co

Register here to receive your FREE Ticket Voucher and take advantage of other member offers.

In the case you have a passion for Antique, Porcelain, Oriental and also Asian Artwork, then you certainly should look no beyond this special and amazing exhibition! Visitors to the Russian, Oriental and Eastern Fine Art Fair should prepare to become totally dumbfounded with the extraordinary number and variety of fine art on display by galleries and also collectors from across the world.

The higher profile examples like the Byzantine iconography as well as paintings and also Faberge jewellery are going to be there, however you will definately get plenty more: certainly, there is going to be something available for anyone who loves the fine art that has been produced by Russian painters and craftsmen in the time of the last millennium.

The Art Fair visitors should be able to enjoy and perhaps buy these gorgeous pieces of art as highly attractive Russian household utensils including teaspoons, salt cellars and silver candlesticks, together with iconography dating from the 11th Century. Amazingly designed Persian and oriental rugs and carpets, maps, atlases, extraordinary books, old-fashioned photos and prints will be on sale.

The paintings can also be considered diverse in styles. Art fans can browse through Soviet realism and impressionist artwork, as well as more contemporary figurative abstracts.

Russian art collectors nowadays naturally gravitate to London to buy one of the best samples of this genre as this city has become one of the most significant location for Russian art auctions. Expatriot Russians living in London and other places and those still in the motherland come to these auctions.

The 2009 Fair was designated by London's Russian community like a premier event on their social calendar. A highlight of this Fair was the Charity Gala Evening on behalf of The Children's Fire and Burns Trust, which was patronised by highly ranked Russians like Their Highnesses Prince and Princess Dimitri Lobanov Rostovsky, celebrities and other VIPs. Approximately £15,000 was raised just for this charity through this evening, in partnership with the Ritz Club VIP dinner.

Expectations were exceeded in many samples of artwork sales: some even being recorded in the high six figure amounts. The Fair is so well regarded by the art community that galleries from as distant for example Far East and the United States are represented together with galleries from Russia, Europe and also the Middle East.

Due to ever higher demand, the 2010 Fair will present on display Eastern Art for the first time. Most of this art primarily hails from the land formerly known as Persia, for a long period renowned as the house of fine rugs and furnishings. Specialist Oriental and Indian art and antiquities traders will also get on exhibit examples of some of their finest collections: many who attend the London Russian, Oriental and Eastern Art Fair will see this as a possible answer to their prayers.

The organisers for this Russian Art Fair, in colaboration with the Ritz Club Casino, The St Petersburg Ball, The Russian Summer Ball and representatives that belonging to the media channels and other fair organizers, are intent on attracting clientele from the highest calibre. To be certain this happens, the venue selected for the 2010 Russian Art Fair will be the opulent Art Deco ballroom inside the Park Lane Hotel, located in London's Mayfair. They have already been timed to maximize the greater numbers of artwork purchasers in London who have started to make the most of the Russian gross sales at Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonham's and MacDougall's, all going on in the time of the exact same weekend.

Those wanting to attend the particular Charity Gala Evening are going to be glad to hear that this recipient is once more the Children's Fire and Burns Trust.

The 2010 Russian Oriental and Eastern Fine Art Fair will be open during the following days:

Rrivate View: Wednesday 9th June 6pm to 9:30pm

Charity Gala Event: Friday 11th June from 6pm
