Dragana Bojic Nikolic
Dragana Bojic-Nikolic was born in 1951 in Pancevo, Serbia. She graduated from the Applied Arts Academy in Belgrade, department of set design, in 1976, and obtained a masters degree in 1982 with the work "Art Noveau in Belgrade". She is an independent artist and has been a member of the Association of Fine and Applied Arts since 1977. She has recently become a member of the Serbian Association of Fine Arts as well. Bojic-Nikolic has been recognised as a distinguished artist since 1996.
During three decades of work, Dragana has had over 20 solo exhibitions in Serbia and abroad, and has participated in more that 150 group ones. She has won ten or more awards and various diplomas form the Artist's Association and the prestigious Jugend Gestaltet Award in Munich in 1980, given to young artists for innovations in painting.
The work of Dragana Bojic-Nikolic is the fruit of great talent and high aesthetic values. Her paintings are recognizable and individualistic, always with elements of something new and inimitable, as in her work she explores, learns and experiments both with colour and with technique. Her oil paintings are expressive and vivid, made this way by dividing the canvas in different parts, where each one can be a painting for itself – reminding us of something we've already seen or experienced in our lives.
Dragana's paintings of abstract expressionism, painted on silk, in acrylic or oil on canvas, are attractive in their spontaneity and expressiveness. They're made in one outing and convey urgency because of this. The colours are clean, intense, and Dragana uses them to create forms and shapes that provoke a strong emotional reaction.
Along with abstract painting, the human figure and body is often the inspiration of this artist, one of the eternal themes of fine arts as well. Her torsos are full of inner strength, emanating energy, breathing through pastel tones and accented movements speaking of dynamics, restlessness and freedom of the spirit. Her originality and talent draw us to a world of hidden erotica. This series of paintings is an ode to the perfection of the male and female body, presented in a fantastic explosion of colours.
Dragana builds a new world in her works, in which she reigns with her perfected painting skills. Her art and great talent always bring with it something new and seldom seen.
