The annual Chelsea Art Fair is an important part of any art lover’s calendar. Following a very successful 2010 Fair, the format for 2011 will remain largely the same, but the whole fair is moving away from Easter to 1st to 3rd April, with the private view evening on 31st of March.

The Chelsea Art Fair has been held since 1996 and is famous for its “middle of the road” exhibits. In 2010, over 500 artists was showcased by 45 galleries. Beautiful examples of both contemporary and 20th century art in a myriad of media were on display. Paintings, engravings, lithographs and etchings are examples of two dimensional artworks, whilst there were also examples of three dimensional art created from wood, bronze, stone and ceramic.

Since 1996, the Chelsea Art Fair has welcomed international representation from individual artists: from 2002, exhibitors from countries such as Japan, China, Zimbabwe, Russia and France have been showcasing examples of their premier artists’ work. Of course, many local artists and those from throughout the UK will also have work on display and ready for purchase.

Those wishing to avail themselves of an original piece of art can do so for as little as £200, up to and beyond an extravagant £20 000. With this in mind, the Chelsea Art Fair is one that should appeal to the first time art collector through to seasoned connoisseurs.

The Art Fund is a charity set up to allow all people to enjoy works of art that would otherwise have been lost. Established in 1903, close to 900,000 art works have been retrieved, thanks to the funds of 80,000 members. Picturesque Torquay, known to many as the English Riviera, is the chosen location for the inaugural Devon Art Fair in 2010. The event has been keenly awaited for a number of years now and promises to be extremely successful.

The Royal College of Art can justly be called the "spiritual home" of British art and, as such, provides an ideal setting for the fair which brings together around 60 of the British leading art dealers showing works by the great names of the 20th century art: Bacon, Freud, Frink, Frost, Hepworth, Hockney, Hodgson, Lanyon, Lowry, Moore (honoured this year with a major exhibition at Tate Britain), Nash, Piper, Riley, Scott, Matthew Smith, Spencer and Sutherland. 2010 sees the opening of the inaugural Penman Towcester Fair and the setting in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside is well worth the trip. Thirty five art and antiques specialists from the across UK will exhibit rare antiques and works of art at the newly built Empress Stand at the Towcester Racecourse. The venue is accessed through an impressive triumphal arch and is bordered by a superb brick wall which runs south from Towcester along the A5.

Specialist dealers will offer fine period furniture, original oils and watercolours, silver, jewellery, pottery, porcelain, glass, brassware and many other quality objects of art. Visitors will be able to take in the views of the racecourse and the picturesque lake from the bar and balcony on the first floor, where garden furniture and sculpture will be prominently displayed. Those attending the Penman Towcester Fair can be assured that the items on display are of the highest quality and have been carefully screened for authenticity and correct labelling, which is to be expected at Penman Fairs.

In 2010 the Russian Eastern and Oriental Art Fair held 10th-12th June at the Park Lane hotel, Mayfair launches the Eastern Art Prizes to discover the best emerging artists from Russia and Eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

There are three major art prizes for the 2010 season:

The Annya Sand Prizes: Presented to the best artwork created by an artist from both the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe (two prizes).

The Salon Contemporary Prize: awarded to the best work of art created by an artist from Asia.

The Eastern Art Prize: awarded to the best artwork created by an artist from the Middle East.

There is no entry fee or age limit and the prizes are open to both galleries and individual artists. Those artists whose work is placed within the final 30 will have the honour of having their work displayed in a room at the Fair dedicated for this very purpose and in March 2011 will also have the opportunity to be a part of a major group exhibition at Asia House in London.

The winners from these 30 finalists will be determined by a panel of internationally renowned experts and will be presented at the Royal Private View on Wednesday, 9th June, 2010. In addition, the winners will also be presented with the opportunity to display their works in solo exhibitions at an exclusive London art gallery as a part of a PR package designed to begin their London career.

All prize entrants will have their work showcased in the Fair’s website, with the 30 finalists being featured in the official Fair catalogue.

The TV art critic, Andrew Graham Dixon, will announce the winners and the prizes will be presented by HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO. There will be television interviews conducted with the winners.
